For the Classic Paloma:
- 2 oz 60 ml tequila (blanco or reposado)
- 1 oz 30 ml fresh grapefruit juice
- 1/2 oz 15 ml fresh lime juice
- 1/2 oz 15 ml simple syrup (adjust to taste)
- 2 oz 60 ml grapefruit soda (like Jarritos or Fresca)
- Ice cubes
- Salt or Tajín for rimming the glass
- Grapefruit wedge or lime wheel for garnish
Substitutions & Tips:
- Tequila: If you don’t have tequila mezcal can be used for a smokier twist.
- Grapefruit Soda: If grapefruit soda isn’t available use club soda and add an extra splash of grapefruit juice.
- Simple Syrup: Replace with agave syrup or honey for a natural sweetener.
- Spice It Up: Add a pinch of chili powder or a dash of hot sauce for a spicy kick.
Step 1: Prepare the Glass
Rim a highball or rocks glass with salt or Tajín. To do this, rub a grapefruit or lime wedge around the rim, then dip it into a plate of salt or Tajín.
Fill the glass with ice cubes.
*Step 2: Mix the Cocktail
In a cocktail shaker, combine tequila, fresh grapefruit juice, lime juice, and simple syrup.
Add a handful of ice and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds.
Step 3: Assemble and Serve
Strain the mixture into your prepared glass.
Top with grapefruit soda and gently stir to combine.
Garnish with a grapefruit wedge or lime wheel.
- For a fresh twist, use fresh grapefruit juice instead of soda and add a splash of club soda for fizz.
- To make it spicy, muddle a few jalapeño slices before adding the tequila.
- A mocktail version can be made using sparkling water instead of tequila.
